Wave Energy Extraction Rate Gradient (WERG)

Geothermal Energy

The spatial rate of change of extracted wave power across a line of WECs, used as a metric for identifying hotspots of resource depletion and excessive attenuation in large arrays. High WERG indicates rapid energy removal that may lead to unrealistic power densities when modeling array interactions. This gradient is a underutilized diagnostic for array layout validation.

Wave energy extraction rate gradient: the wake call everyone ignores. High gradients signal stealth capacity limits.
