ScottishPower Renewables and Masdar have installed 95 foundations at the £4 billion East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm off the Suffolk coast, marking a major engineering milestone for the 1.4 GW joint venture project that will deliver clean power to the UK grid. The achievement demonstrates that the UK offshore wind supply chain can execute large-scale infrastructure at pace, with the project on track to become one of the world’s largest operational wind farms upon completion.

The East Anglia THREE development represents a deepening partnership between British and Emirati clean energy capital. ScottishPower, part of the Iberdrola group, brings decades of UK offshore experience, while Masdar contributes global project finance reach and a portfolio spanning over 40 countries. Their collaboration signals how international capital is pooling to meet the UK’s 50 GW offshore wind target by 2030, a goal that demands not just consented sites but proven delivery capability across foundations, cables, and turbine installation.

Foundation installation is among the most weather-sensitive and logistically complex phases of offshore construction. Completing 95 monopiles or jackets in a single campaign reflects maturation in vessel availability, port infrastructure at Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, and the domestic fabrication base that supplied steel components. Each foundation anchors a 14–15 MW class turbine, and the cumulative 1.4 GW output will power the equivalent of more than 1.3 million UK homes annually, displacing roughly 3 million tonnes of CO₂ per year.

The milestone arrives as the UK government seeks to accelerate consenting and grid connection timelines under its clean power 2030 mission. East Anglia THREE’s progress underscores that the primary bottleneck has shifted from turbine technology to seabed preparation, transmission build-out, and supply chain coordination. With first power expected in 2026 and full commissioning by 2027, the project will test whether the current pace of foundation and cable installation can be sustained across the broader pipeline of Round 4 and ScotWind sites.
